How is the idea of SL FOOD TECH generated?

In February 2019,

In 2019, the organization’s founding members began giving free seminars in their leisure time to educate locals on the importance of applying food science and technology principles to agricultural products to reduce the country’s agricultural waste. Small and medium sized entrepreneurs in the western province had access to various food and beverage production focused training programs during that period.

The beginning of SL FOOD TECH

As the second stage, in June 2019 SL FOOD TECH team started a YouTube channel and Facebook page called SL FOOD TECH to reach more community bases around the country. At this time, SL FOOD TECH is born officially to approach more extraordinary results by gathering professional experts to provide quality training and consultation to the local Sri Lankan food and beverage-producing communities. Videos were prepared about the proper techniques of making value-added products for agricultural harvest and posted on YouTube to access everyone nationwide. In addition, interesting articles related to food production technology were published on the Facebook page to encourage entrepreneurs looking forward to joining the food and beverage production market.

Covid-19 pandemic vs online training programs

COVID-19

Because of the SARS-CoV-19 pandemic, practical workshops were temporarily suspended. In response to rising demand, culinary technology seminars were conducted via Zoom. Despite the difficulty, the SL FOOD TECH team overcame the obstacle of providing the experience and knowledge of a practical program online. Even overseas Sri Lankans participated in these online seminars and obtained the necessary technical information.

e – Swabhimani Digital Social Impact Awards 2021, conducted by ICTA, Sri Lanka.
